Old Mission Tavern
In the finest tradition of old world European taverns, the"art gallery" restaurant promises both a culinary and visual feast. Wonderful cuisine with prime rib, fresh fish and seafood, lamb, steaks, chicken, duckling, pastas and signature soups and salads plus a weekly pierogie special make the Old Mission Tavern restaurant a habit with locals and a priority for visitors. The Tavern has provided a warm welcome for travelers for over twenty-five years.
Sundays feature a famous country style chicken dinner special. The Thursday night pierogies are made by Verna Bartnick and are a particular delight.
The Tavern's main dining room with a woodburning stove and bar, leads to the "garden room", brightened with many windows and surrounded by original artwork. In the Bella Galleria itself there is a banquet facility in which private parties can dine in the midst of the artwork.
The experience begins at the base of the peninsula on Center Road (M-37) north of Traverse City. In every season, nature rolls out the carpet and spreads a panorama for 14 miles of rolling hills patterned with orchards and vineyards and surrounded by views of East and West Grand Traverse Bay.
This is an experience unequaled in Northern Michigan.
Bella Galleria ~ Fine Art
The Bella Galleria is a gallery of fine art showcasing the original artwork of local and regional artists working in many media and artforms. Attached to the Old Mission Tavern restaurant, the gallery features the work of over 75 artists. Themes and revolving exhibits keep interest alive for visitors all year long. The 1500 sq. ft. gallery and banquet hall adjoins the restaurant and was opened in 1994.
Next door to the gallery and the restaurant is the sculpture studio of Verna Bartnick, the owner of the Tavern and Bella Galleria. Verna is one of the area's most widely known and respected artists and her work serves as a focus for the gallery and its association of participating artists.
